The main stage business in every war is the loss of lives and property. Civilians always suffer severely whenever there is a war. Just War Doctrine strongly emphasizes on protecting the lives of innocent civilians. field of study Strategy for Combating Terrorism (Bush Doctrine)In the put forward of the terrorist attack on 9/11, President George Bush led the way to fight against global terrorism. The military doctrine of the United States had been a polity of deterrence for years. George Bush changed it into a insurance of striking at the countries that threatens the interests of the United States. Under the Bush Doctrine, the United States adopted the idea of pre-emptive strikes on the suspect countries. The Bush Doctrine is a natio nal strategy for combating terrorism. The new doctrine clearly states that the US would not allow any country to question its military supremacy. It also believes that the US has a bigger role to pass in maintaining peace in the world by waging war against the monkey nations and terrorists. It denounced terrorism in strong words and calls for non-compromise on its national interests . The need of a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism has bend necessary keeping the strong capabilities of the terrorists. By using weapons of mass destruction, terrorists sent a clear signal that they could launch attacks on important installations at their will. The Bush Doctrine identified possible threats in three categories. These potential threats are global terrorist organizations, states that harbor such organizations and rogue states. It defined rogue states as states that oppress their own citizens and squander the national properties for the self-interest of the rulers. Countries that d isregard outside(a) law and threaten their neighbors are also fall in the akin category. In this context, the Bush Doctrine termed Iraq, North Korea and Iran as rogue states. However, the accent was on Iraq. The US policy stated in clear impairment that it would not wait and watch until the rogue nations acquire or stimulate the weapons of mass destructions and use them to destroy the humankind . Preemptive strike is not a substitute for the non-military measures such as financial sanctions and diplomatic offensive to isolate a nation that practices dangerous propaganda. It is just an add-on policy to combat the new threat of invisible war launched by the terrorist groups. The main objective of the Bush Doctrine is not to tolerate the ghastly act of terrorism in any form. ConclusionIn the past decades, people from some sections of the society developed new ways of terrorizing people to force the government and administration to meet their demands. Suicidal attacks in the United States, India, Israel and Iraq are the examples of the newly developed way of warfare. There is little option left-hand(a) with the states to tackle terrorism. A full-fledged war against terrorism and countries harboring terrorists has become inevitable. In this context, the Bush Doctrine seems to be an effective option. The leaderships in the world always explored ways for dialogue and discussion to tackle such problems. However, from the recent incidents, it has become clear that bringing the terrorists into negotiating table is almost impossible. They hardly showed any willingness to cipher into dialogues. Their intransigent attitude forced the governments to take tough decision in curbing terrorism. Many people question the policy of the Bush Doctrine citing the principles of Just War Doctrine. However, in the recent years the world witnessed sulphurous acts of terrorism that killed thousands of people and caused loss of public and private property. In such a scenario, war ag ainst terrorism becomes completely justifiable. The only concern is roughly the loss of civilian lives. States going to war must address this concern properly and take necessary steps to avoid this.BibliographyDolan, Chris J. In War We Trust The Bush Doctrine and the Pursuit of Just War. He has the physical strength to live in that kind of environment and he has a farming background which ordain be of great help in terms of a sustainable food production for the group. He would also be a salutary arsedidate to be the leader of the group and again, not just because he is a priest, but because of his being active in civil rights guarantees that he will be just and fair in relating with his islandmates. His being handsome also guarantees that his judgments will always be towards the good of them all not restricted by religious his biases . His being a priest even makes him a better moral uplifter for them the survivors. The next good choice would be Mr. Blake. He is an outdoors man so his knowledge and skills would be inbred for their survival. His construction experience will also become handy in making a shelter for them. His prejudices against blacks however superpower become a problem for them. Dr. Gonzalez may be an experienced doctor, a skill that would be of great value to all of them in the island. However, he is old, and has already lived a full life. Mr. Newton on the other hand, still has one socio-economic class to finish in med school. What he has acquire in school cannot compare to what Dr. Gonzalez has learned through years of medical practice. However, he is young and can still keep on learning.Provided that he did his homework back in school, what he has learned should be enough for him to be able to get over any ailments and injuries his co-survivors might acquire while they are at the island . He will suddenly be able to put what he has learned in practice. Therefore, Mr. Newton should be allowed on the sauceboat. The two children Jean Garcia and Bobby Dane should also be allowed on the boat. They are very young and should have the right to experience life. But at their age, for them to survive on the island, they would need their parents to corroborate them.It was not indicated specifically whether Mrs. Garcia is indeed Jeans mother. Assuming that she is, she might not have much to present in terms of recognition and regarding her past, unlike most of the other chances who has many achievements to enumerate, but she is Jeans mother, therefore she should be given the chance to raise her child the way she sees fit. Bobby on the other hand is a special case. His condition requires mortal to take premeditation of unconditionally him in pine terms. That role would be best fulfilled by his parents. His mother should be the best candidate for that. However, she is diabe tic. Her condition makes her very fragile especially in a remote island where she would not receive her proper treatment. She might not live long enough to take care of her son. Therefore his father, Dr. Dane should be allowed on the boat instead. He is physically healthy to live long enough to care for Bobby. For such a varied group of people to survive and live together on a remote island, they should all be fledged enough to disregard their religious and racial ideologies. They should learn to work and assemble with each other in order to live harmoniously.

ACME Financial now wants to consolidate the companies reading technology resources to eliminate redundancy and component education among the new companies. The top dog Information Officer (CIO) has oversight obligation for the project and has hired Client/Servers R Us to develop the computer computer architecture for the new bodily tuition arrangement. Joe Consultant of C/S R Us presented 3 client/server constructs to the CIO and is requesting the CIO to select one. The CIO is not sure which middleware design is best for the companys goals. The CIO has asked Chris Consultant to present the advantages and disadvantages for each of the ersatzs. Background ACME Financial Incorporated (AF Inc.) is an enthronisation banking company that provides an on-line answer that allows their clients to ingress calculate and securities industry information. ACME Financial Inc. recently acquired several small and medium sized companies finishedout the country, each with their own pecuniary and report dodges. Almost all of the companies have developed their own performance package for their analysts use in their daily jobs, but only a few provided on-line account assist. The analytical tools rely on near-real m market info and historical market info. The CIO wants to consolidate the financial and accounting information into a corporate information system that can wear decision support applications for corporate counseling. Naturally, since the computer computer hardware is different for different companies, the CIO expects to upgrade the hardware to accommodate the new Information Technology (IT) system. The CIO will select the best analytical packet system as the standard parcel used by all company analysts. Each local internet site will be expected to provide an on-line service for their clients.Customers will be given the required application software to entree their account information. Finally, ACME Financial has developed superfluous entropy mining software that gives them a competitive advantage. AF Inc. offers their clients investment advice based on the information derived by the data mining software. Each account manager receives the information and and so provides tailored recommendations to each customer based on their portfolio.System RequirementsThe following come of system take upments reflects the systems priorities (listed roughly in order of priority) 1. availableness The CIOs number one priority is high availability. AF Inc. markets their reliability and feels that most clients choose them for their dependability. The CIO wants to maximize the systems availability. To achieve high availability, if a kingdomal military post cannot provide support then a customer mustiness always have access to the on-line service by a different government agency. 2. entropy Integrity The requirement for data unity varies within the system. The most important data are customers transactions. It is essential that a customers transa ction is never muddled and the system must guarantee that each transaction is completed. In contrast, data lost from the high data rate inputs, such as Reuters and the NYSE, are easily recovered during the each broadcast so it is not critical if some data are lost during a broadcast. 3. death penalty Financial markets are highly volatile duration sensitivity of data is measured in minutes. Millions can be lost if information is slow getting to the analysts. The system must be able to support information broadcast throughout the network.4. Security The CIO is concerned about the security of the data mining software and the information produced by the data mining software. The Chief Executive Officer thinks the data mining information software provides a competitive advantage for the company. If an unauthorized user had access to the information they could deal the data mining applications or steal the information produced by the data mining software. In either case, the perpetrat or could make the same investment recommendations as AF Inc. account managers. Therefore, if competitors had access to the information the results could be financially withering to the company. The CIO is concerned that a competitor could pose as a customer and hack into the highly sensitive information through his on-line service account. 5. Growth The CIO envisions an incremental migration process to install the new system collectable to the magnitude of the change. Also, he expects that AF Inc. will continue to grow and acquire more companies. The CIO wants to be able to develop more application software as new customer run are added. The CIO also wants to add more near-real clip information sources tothe system.6. Backup and Recovery The CIO understands that the system will crash problems from time to time. A key factor in determining the systems success is how quickly the system can recover from a failure. Backup and recovery must be smooth and non-disruptive. One way to e nsure that the system can easily recover from a system crash is to make sure the data is duplicated elsewhere on the system. The corporate database is the primary back up for each of the regional authoritys.ConfigurationEach local office (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest) has accesses a regional information hub. Local offices use client software to access the local application server. These application servers access the local databases for close all of the information needed on a daily basis. For access to information needed less frequently the application software should access the central database at corporate headquarters. Each regional database has only the subset of information that is relevant for its area, whereas the corporate headquarters maintains all of the information from each region as well as data that is unique to corporate applications, such as additional accounting and company financial information. The corporate office is also amenable for the data mi ning software and information. Each of the regional databases is connected with high capacity links to the corporate database. Finally, the corporate office receives information from Reuters, NYSE, NASDAQ, and other financial markets. The information flow fluctuates daily from 30 40 KBps to 4 5 MBps. Twenty-five percent of the information is instanter broadcast to the regional offices to support the on-line account service. All the information is filtered and stored in the database.Architectural AlternativesAlternative I The Database Management System This alternative takes advantage of the all-encompassing functionality provided by the popular relational database management companies, such as oracle and Sybase. All information is delivered into the system where it is immediately stored into one of the databases. The relational database management software is responsible for the distribution of information throughout the system. Clients communicatewith the databases through Sta ndard Query Language (SQL).Corporate and regional databases are kept synchronised using features supplied by the RDBMS software. Transactions are guaranteed by using special Transaction Processing Software. The vendor-supplied RDBMS software is responsible for back-up and recovery of all the databases. Data security is handled at the row level within each database. This means that clients can only receive records for which their user has permission. Existing application software whitethorn have to be modify to use SQL. Alternative II Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) This solution depends on CORBA to tie together the clients and databases. CORBA is responsible for distributing data across the system. The RDBMS software is still responsible for the back-up and recovery, but the databases are kept synchronized using CORBA as the primary transport mechanism for the data.Clients, application servers, and databases communicate to each other through CORBAs transport mech anism. Existing application software would be wrapped in IDL to communicate with other applications. Special near-real time treatment application software would send the information to each of the regional offices where it would be directed to clients that subscribe to the information. Alternative III Message and Queuing (M&Q) The message and queuing design uses commercial M & Q software combined with a transaction bear on product to ensure customers transactions are completed. declivity Message Queue and MQ Series are some of the leading products for communicate and queuing software. Clients communicate to other entities using messages. Messages are deposited in queues and the message and queuing middleware is responsible for message distribution to the appropriate clients. The software applications will be modified to send and receive messages from queues.Questions to Answer (Total 100 points)The case study must be discussed covering the designs and these questions with your te ammates, but your final write-up should be your collaborative work. Doing research on specific products for the assignment should certainly be a team activity. The total length of the write-up should probably not exceed 5 pages. 1. cast in more detail the architecture of each architectural alternative. To do this you will need to flesh out the specifics of the various parts. This will require some research on theproducts indicated (or other comparable products that you locate).Note that some services are automatically provided when a particular product is purchased, while others must be developed to satisfy the system requirements. You should describe what services are automatically provided by the products, which services would need to be developed, and how services should be distributed across the network. (40 points) 2. Evaluate each of the alternatives against the system requirements, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each. (You may assume that the hardware will s upport all solutions.) In your analysis you might take care issues such as which alternative gives the system developers the most flexibility, which alternative provides easiest maintenance, and which alternative requires the least modification to the current system. Other hints for system comparison are listed below. (40 points)3. Prioritize each alternative or suggest a different solution if you think it superior to the presented alternatives. (20 points) Suggestions on how to proceed 1. There is not enough information to make an informed decision about each of the alternatives. As a team, allot a percentage of your time to see which products offer what type of services. You do not have enough time to do a complete market survey so be selective. 2. If you depend only on marketing information you may date that the alternatives are equivalent. So you might want to go beyond the market literature in doing your research for this assignment.3. As you do your analysis, pay particular attention to some of the following kinds of issues a. How well does the architecture support the rudimentary system functionality requirements? b. How much run time performance overhead does the architecture impose? c. How well will specific products handle the high pot of data? d. How will each architecture handle occasional decimal point loads? e. How easy is it to customize the system to new requirements? 4. In your analysis, when you are considering costs, you do not need to consider the actual product cost. (It may be impossible to get actual product costs anyway.) Instead, guess cost with respect to the amount of customized software that will be necessary to implement each alternative, and how this might affect long-term maintenance costs, time to implement, flexibility, etc.

Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Fly Away Peter Comparative Essay Essay
Menace and bane are two elements in fiction that often help to create tension and build to contendds a climax. These components are evident in David Maloufs fly front outside hammer and Gabriel Garcia Marquezs tarradiddle of a Death Foretold under two overarching write ups sniff out of certificate of indebtedness and ferocity. through and through with(predicate) the perspectives and experiences of different characters in the stories, both Malouf and Marquez develop the image of peril that is sustained throughout their stories of war and murder. In Fly Away rotating shaft, Malouf introduces the notion of threat in the context of war a place where people, including peace lovers like Jim, are forcibly drawn into. Jim is invited by Bert to ride on the bi-plane and Malouf reveals his bloodline fear, a bone fear, of leaving the basis and is consequently portrayed as being resistant to change. When the war arrives, he feels panicky on this bare-ass and dangerous slope that ha d once been reasonableness that stretched away to a clear future Brisbane is sliding towards Europe and the war as it is a duty befallen on patriotic men to confirm their worth in defending the honour of their country. Many people depend to be supporting this view Jim meets a girl who says passionately she would motivation to be in it because it is an opportunity, and similarly his father feels it is a calamity to reach out and touch a unique thing. Malouf thus draws our attention to Jims change as he slides with the rest overmaster into the pit of war with superstitious dread and juxtaposes this to his initial unease about the new presence of bi-planes and bit-made technology. This creates a sense of foreboding and threat, further accent by warnings such as catastrophe and madness, as Jim plunges into a brutal world of war from his sacred directn in the chancel (the light, and then the dark) to fight for his country. On the another(prenominal) hand, Marquez expresses the i dea of threat in Chronicle of a Death Foretold through the rigidness of the townsfolkspeople in their ideas regarding tradition and family honour. To uphold the honour of their sister, the Vicario twins perceive as their duty to kill capital of Chile who supposedly took her virginity. However, this crime is largely condoned by their Catholic society and even Father Amador the priest pronounces their innocence to begin with God. Marquez presents a town where first-degree murder is justified in the denote of the furor of virginity and it is the responsibility of the men in the town to defend this tradition. Prudencia Cotes would neer have married Pablo if he hadnt done what a man should do.Her mother tells Pedro and Pablo them honour doesnt wait and Clotilde Armenta voices her sympathy in saying it is a horrible duty thats fallen on them as they are duty-bound to avenge Angela. The twins are constrained to conform to societys expectations of masculine assertiveness even if they c ouldnt sleep for the rest of their lives on their conscience. In sidesplitting Santiago, the twins have proved their status as men and the seduced sister was in obstinacy of her honour once more in defending the validity of their culture. The town can be viewed, to an extent, as dysfunctional and a filtrate atm is present throughout the book as readers know the threat of this cult will result in an innocent mans terminal. The makeup of violence is exemplified in many characters and through the eyes of Jim, we see the hazard posed in Mans capacity to cause scathe and death in Fly Away Peter. Even forwards the war, violence is hinted as being part of daily life when Jim witnesses the killing of a lone man with his hands over his face with blood between them as another figure, hurling itself from the shadows, brought him down. Although Jim has always been consciously rejecting any notions of violence, he discovers black anger in himself and a probable for violence when he fac es Wizzers strapperying later. He is shaken to authorise that he has come closer to his fathers similar nature of violence unwittingly to the extent that he does not wish to be confronted with nigh depth in himself that frightened him and he doesnt understand. kill in war is also epitomized by the brutality of Clancys death where Jim experiences for the first time Mans ruthlessness on a personal level. Clancys senseless death comes as a pique to him and Jim is greatly affected by this the hosing off never left him dust and often woke from nightmares drenched in a wetness that dried and stuck. Malouf forcefully juxtaposes the introductory setting of Jim buttering slabs of bread with the diversely opposite scene of Clancys accident, efficaciously demonstrating the harsh reality of war. Clancys passing further shows another ill-use in Jims loss of innocence as he feels stirred by the horrors of war and threat is manifested in Fly Away Peter through the ordinariness with which violence presents itself.Violence is a dominant theme in Chronicle of a Death Foretold as it is in Fly Away Peter as it leads to the ultimate menace of Santiagos death. It is a minor yet significant part of everyday life for most of the town Victoria Guzman disembowels rabbits pulls out the insides by the roots and throws the piping guts to the dogs and Leandro Pornoy dies gored in the jugular vein by a bull all of which are accepted by the town matter-of-factly. The murder of Santiago is brutal as his liver was almost sliced in pieces, his pancreas was sunk and there were perforations in the transverse colon and small intestine among other injuries. His death has been brought on by any one of the seven major(ip) wounds and this reflects an unnecessary level of violence on the part of the Vicario twins. Even afterward his death, Santiagos autopsy is mishandled as a syrup-coloured liquid began to bunk from the wounds, drawing flies, and a purple blotch appeared on his upper oral cavity and spread out very slowly up to his hairline and Father Amador remarks it was as if we killed him all over again after he was dead. Through the use of violence in the lives of common people and graphic imaginativeness illustrating the aftermath of a murder, Santiagos killing mirrors the menace in which the town is under in their acceptance of the idea of violence. The themes of male duty and violence in both Fly Away Peter and Chronicle of a Death Foretold develop the concepts of threat and menace. Malouf uses Jims dilemma in enlisting for the war to highlight the threat of the blind trend in which men fight to prove their masculinity even though it results in countless lives lost and Jims experiences in the war that draw on the idea of menace in the form of violence. Conversely, Marquez develops the notion of threat through the tradition of the town surrounding Angela Vicarios enigmatic predicament which precipitates the menace of Santiagos murder wherein violence plays an important role. A tense and portentous atmosphere is thus crafted in both books as the authors stretch forth on these themes, building up to a final climax.

An inchoate historical forebear is that of Catalonia during the Spanish revolution. More developed theoretical models include those of Karl Polanyi, Participatory Economics and the negotiated coordination model of Pat Devine, as well as in Cornelius Castoriadiss pamphlet Workers Councils and the Economics of a Self-Managed Society.Additionally, Jnos Kornai identifies five distinct classifications for socialism * Classical / Marxist conception, where socialism is a stage of economic development in which wage labour, private property in the means of production and monetary relations establish been made redundant through the development of the productive forces, so that capital assemblage has been superseded by economic planning. Economic planning in this definition means conscious allocation of economic inputs and the means of production by the associated producers to straight off maximise use- valuates as opposed to exchange- time values, in contrast to the anarchy of production of capitalist economy.* Walrasian / Market Socialist which defines socialism as public-ownership or cooperative-enterprises in a market economy, with prices for producer goods set through a trial-and-error regularity by a central planning board. In this view, socialism is specify in terms of de jure public property rights over major enterprises.* Leninist conception, which includes a form of political organisation based on control of the means of production and government by a mavin political fellowship apparatus that claims to act in the interest of the functional class, and an ideology strange toward markets and political dissent, with coordination of economic activity through centralised economic planning (a command economy).* Social Democratic concept, based on the capitalisticicic mode of production, which defines socialism as a set of values or else than a specific type of social and economic organisation. It includes unconditional abide for parliamentary democracy, gradual and reformist attempts to establish socialism, and support for socially progressive tense causes. Social democrats are not opposed to the market or private property kind of they try to ameliorate the effects of capitalism through a welfare state, which relies on the market as the f undamental coordinate entity in the economy and a degree of public ownership/public provision of public goods in an economy otherwise dominated by private enterprise.* East Asian model, or socialist market economy, based on a largely free-market, capital accumulation for profit and substantive private ownership along with state-ownership of strategic industries monopolised by a single political party. Jnos Kornai ultimately leaves the classification of this model (as either socialist or capitalist) to the reader.16What are the disadvantages and advantages of socialism?Advantages of Socialism* In environments with plentiful resources, socialism provides all members with their survival needs, creating a stable social environment. * Members that cannot participate economically due to disabilities, age, or periods of poor health can still acquit wisdom, emotional support and continuity of experience to the system. * Freedom from work provides opportunity for some societal members t o explore non-economically-productive pursuits, such as pure science, mathematics and non-popular arts.Disadvantages of Socialism* Since there is no culling and no economic advantage to working harder, socialistic systems provide no inherent incentive to participate. This makes socialism internally unstable. * Due to a lack of incentives, socialistic systems tend not to be competitive, making them externally unstable. * In times of plenty, immigrants are drawn to the free resources offered by socialistic systems, while potentially adding nothing economically productive. * In times of scarcity, resentment of non-economically-productive members of society increases, causing a destabilizing effect on the society and economyHistory of socialist economic musical theme determine of socialism have roots in pre-capitalist institutions such as the ghostlike communes, reciprocal obligations, and communal charity of Mediaeval Europe, the development of its economic possibility primarily refl ects and responds to the monumental changes brought about by the dissolution of feudalism and the issuing of specifically capitalist social relations. As such it is comm except regarded as a movement belonging to the modern era. Many socialists have considered their protagonism as the preservation and extension of the radical humanist ideas expressed in En beginenment doctrine such as Jean-Jacques Rousseaus Discourse on Inequality, Wilhelm von Humboldts Limits of State Action, or Immanuel Kants insistent defense of the French Revolution.Capitalism appeared in mature form as a result of the problems raised when an industrial factory system requiring long-term investment and entailing correspondent risks was introduced into an internationalized commercial (mercantilist) framework. historically speaking, the most pressing needs of this bran-new system were an assured supply of the elements of industry land, elaborate machinery, and labour and these imperatives led to the commodif ication of these elements. match to important socialist economic historian Karl Polanyis classic account, the impellent transformation of land, money and especially labour into commodities to be allocated by an sovereign market mechanism was an alien and inhuman rupture of the pre-existing social fabric. Marx had viewed the process in a similar light, referring to it as part of the process of primitive accumulation whereby enough initial capital is amassed to begin capitalist production. The dislocation that Polyani and others describe, triggered natural counter-movements in efforts to re-embed the economy in society. These counter-movements, that included, for example, the Luddite rebellions, are the incipient socialist movements. Over time such movements gave birth to or acquired an grade of intellectual defenders who attempted to develop their ideas in surmise. As Polanyi noted, these counter-movements were mostly excited and therefore not full-fledged socialist movements. round demands went no except than a wish to mitigate the capitalist markets lash effects. Later, a full socialist program developed, arguing for systemic transformation. Its theorists believed that correct if markets and private property could be tamed so as not to be excessively exploitative, or crises could be effectively mitigated, capitalist social relations would remain significantly unjust and anti-democratic, suppressing universal human needs for fulfilling, empowering and creative work, diversity and solidarity.Within this context socialism has undergone quatern periods the original in the ordinal century was a period of utopian visions (1780s-1850s) thus occurred the rise of revolutionary socialist and Communist movements in the nineteenth century as the primary opposition to the rise of corporations and industrialization (18301916) the polarization of socialism around the question of the Soviet Union, and adoption of socialist or social democratic policies in resp onse (19161989) and the response of socialism in the neo-liberal era (1990- ). As socialism developed, so did the socialist system of economics. Utopian socialismThe first theories which came to hold the term socialism began to be explicate in the late 18th century, and were termed socialism first in the 19th century. The central beliefs of the socialism of this period rested on the exploitation of those who struggle by those who owned capital or rented land and housing. The abject misery, privation and disease to which laboring classes seemed destined was the inspiration for a series of schools of thought which argued that life under a class of masters, or capitalists as they were then becoming to be called, would consist of working classes being motionn tear to subsistence wages.Socialist ideas found expression in utopian movements, which often urinate agricultural communes aimed at being self-sufficient on the land. These included legion(predicate) religious movements, su ch as the Shakers in America. Utopian socialism had little to offer in terms of a systematic theory of economic phenomena. In theory, economic problems were dissolved by a utopian society which had transcended material scarcity. In practice, small communities with a common spirit could sometimes resolve allocation problems.Socialism and classical political economyThe first organized theories of socialist economics were significantly impacted by classical economic theory, including elements in Adam Smith, Robert Malthus and David Ricardo. In Smith there is a conception of a common good not provided by the market, a class analysis, a concern for the dehumanizing aspects of the factory system, and the concept of rent as being unproductive. Ricardo argued that the renting class was parasitic. This, and the possibility of a general thrust, an over accumulation of capital to produce goods for sale quite a than for use, became the butt of a rising critique of the concept that free marke ts with competition would be sufficient to prevent disastrous downturns in the economy, and whether the need for expansion would needfully lead to war.Socialist political economy before MarxCharles Fourier, influential archeozoic French socialist thinkerA key beforehand(predicate) socialist theorist of political economy was Pierre-Joseph Proudhon. He was the most well-known of nineteenth century mutualist theorists and the first thinker to refer to himself as an syndicalist. Others were Technocrats like Henri de Saint Simon, agrarian radicals like Thomas Spence, William Ogilvie and William Cobbett anti-capitalists like Thomas Hodgskin communitarian and utopian socialists like Robert Owen, William Thompson and Charles Fourier anti-market socialists like John Gray and John Francis Bray the Christian mutualist William Batchelder Greene as well as the theorists of the Chartist movement and early proponents of syndicalism. The first advocates of socialism promoted social leveling in order to create a meritocratic or technocratic society based upon individual talent. wager Henri de Saint-Simon was the first individual to coin the term socialism. Simon was fascinated by the enormous potential of science and technology, which led him to advocate a socialist society that would eliminate the disorderly aspects of capitalism and which would be based upon equal opportunities. Simon advocated a society in which separately someone was ranked according to his or her capacities and rewarded according to his or her work. This was accompanied by a proclivity to implement a rationally organized economy based on planning and geared towards large-scale scientific and material progress, which incorporated a desire for a semi-planned economy. Other early socialist thinkers were influenced by the classical economists. The Ricardian socialists, such as Thomas Hodgskin and Charles Hall, were based on the work of David Ricardo and cogitate that the equilibrium value of commoditie s approximated producer prices when those commodities were in elastic supply, and that these producer prices corresponded to the embodied labor. The Ricardian socialists viewed profit, interest and rent as deductions from this exchange-value.Das KapitalKarl Marx employed systematic analysis in an ambitious attempt to elucidate capitalisms remote polices of motion, as well as to expose the specific mechanisms by which it exploits and alienates. He radically modified classical political economic theories. Notably, the labor theory of value that had been worked upon by Adam Smith and David Ricardo, was transformed into his characteristic law of value and used for the purpose of revealing how commodity fetishism obscures the globe of capitalist society. His approach, which Engels would call scientific socialism, would stand as the forked point in economic theory in one commission went those who rejected the capitalist system as fundamentally anti-social, arguing that it could never be harnessed to effectively realize the fullest development of human potentialities wherein the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all..Das Kapital is one of the many famous incomplete works of economic theory Marx had planned four volumes, completed two, and left his collaborator Engels to complete the third. In many ways the work is modelled on Adam Smiths Wealth of Nations, seeking to be a comprehensive logical description of production, consumption and finance in relation to morality and the state. It is a work of philosophy, anthropology and sociology as much as one of economics. However, it has several important statements * The Law of pass judgment Capitalist production is the production of an immense multitude of commodities or mouth commodity production.A commodity has two essential qualities firstly, they are useful, they assemble some human want, the nature of such wants, whether, for instance, they spring from the stomach or from fan cy, makes no difference, and secondly they are sold on a market or exchanged. Critically the exchange value of a commodity is independent of the amount of labour required to appropriate its useful qualities. But rather depends on the amount of socially necessary labour required to produce it. All commodities are sold at their value, so the origin of the capitalist profit is not in cheating or theft but in the fact that the cost of reproduction of labour power, or the proles wage, is less than the value created during their time at work, enabling the capitalists to yield a surplus value or profit on their investments.* Historical Property Relations Historical capitalism represents a process of significant social upheaval where rural masses were separated from the land and ownership of the means of production by force, deprivation, and legal manipulation, creating an urban proletariat based on the institution of wage-labour. what is more, capitalist property relations aggravated th e semisynthetic separation between city and country, which is a key factor in accounting for the metabolic rift between human beings in capitalism and their natural environment, which is at the root of our current ecological dilemmas.* Commodity fetichism Marx adapted previous value-theory to show that in capitalism phenomena involved with the price system (markets, competition, supply and demand) constitute a powerful ideology that obscures the rudimentary social relations of capitalist society. Commodity fetishism refers to this distortion of appearance. The underlying social reality is one of economic exploitation.* Economic Exploitation Workers are the fundamental creative source of new value. Property relations affording the right of usufruct and despotic control of the workplace to capitalists are the devices by which the surplus value created by workers is appropriated by the capitalists. * Accumulation Inherent to capitalism is the incessant drive to stash away as a res ponse to the competitive forces acting upon all capitalists. In such a context the accumulated wealth which is the source of the capitalists social power derives itself from being able to echo the circuit of MoneyCommodityMoney, where the capitalist receives an increment or surplus value higher than their initial investment, as rapidly and efficiently as possible. Moreover this driving imperative leads capitalism to its expansion on a widely distributed scale.* Crises Marx identified natural and historically specific (i.e. structural) barriers to accumulation that were interrelated and interpenetrated one another in times of crises. Different types of crises, such as realization crises and overproduction crises, are expressions of capitalisms inability to constructively outgo such barriers. Moreover, the upshot of crises is increased centralization, the expropriation of the many capitalists by the few.* Centralization The interacting forces of competition, autochthonous crises, intensive and extensive expansion of the scale of production, and a growing interdependence with the state apparatus, all promote a strong developmental aptness towards the centralization of capital.* Material Development As a result of its unalterable drive to optimize profitability by increasing the productivity of labour, typically by revolutionizing technology and production techniques, capitalism develops so as to more and more reduce the objective need for work, suggesting the potential for a new era of creative forms of work and expanded scope for leisure.* Socialization, and the pre-conditions for Revolution By socializing the labour process, concentrating workers into urban settings in large-scale production processes and linking them in a worldwide market, the agents of a potential revolutionary change are created. so Marx felt that in the course of its development capitalism was at the equal time developing the preconditions for its own negation. However, although the objective conditions for change are generated by the capitalist system itself, the subjective conditions for social revolution can only come about through the apprehension of the objective circumstances by the agents themselves and the transformation of such understanding into an effective revolutionary programanarchist economics nihilist economics is the set of theories and practices of economics and economic activity within the political philosophy of anarchism. Pierre Joseph Proudhon was involved with the Lyons mutualists and later adopted the name to describe his own teachings. Mutualism is an anarchist school of thought that originates in the writings of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, who envisioned a society where each person might possess a means of production, either individually or collectively, with trade representing equivalent amounts of labor in the free market. Integral to the organisation was the establishment of a mutual-credit bank that would lend to producers at a stripped interest rate, just high enough to cover administration. Mutualism is based on a labor theory of value that holds that when labor or its product is sold, in exchange, it ought to receive goods or services embodying the amount of labor necessary to produce an article of exactly similar and equal value.Receiving anything less would be considered exploitation, theft of labor, or usury. Collectivist anarchism (also known as anarcho-collectivism) is a revolutionary doctrine that advocates the abolition of the state and private ownership of the means of production. Instead, it envisions the means of production being owned collectively and controlled and managed by the producers themselves. Once collectivization takes place, workers salaries would be determined in democratic organizations based on the amount of time they contributed to production. These salaries would be used to purchase goods in a communal market. Collectivist anarchism is most unremarkably associated with Mikh ail Bakunin, the anti-authoritarian sections of the First International, and the early Spanish anarchist movement. The Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin, influential work which presents the economic vision ofanarcho-communismAnarchist communism is a theory of anarchism which advocates the abolition of the state, private property, and capitalism in favor of common ownership of the means of production, direct democracy and a horizontal network of unforced associations and workers councils with production and consumption based on the guiding principle from each according to ability, to each according to need. Unlike mutualism, collectivist anarchism and marxism, anarcho-communism as defended by Peter Kropotkin and Errico Malatesta rejected the labor theory of value altogether, instead advocating a gift economy and to base distribution on need.Anarchist communism as a coherent, modern economic-political philosophy was first speculate in the Italian section of the First International by Carlo Cafiero, Emilio Covelli, Errico Malatesta, Andrea costa and other ex-Mazzinian Republicans. Out of respect for Mikhail Bakunin, they did not make their differences with collectivist anarchism pellucid until after Bakunins death. By the early 1880s, most of the European anarchist movement had adopted an anarchist communist position, advocating the abolition of wage labour and distribution according to need. Ironically, the collectivist label then became more commonly associated with Marxist state socialists who advocated the retention of some sort of wage system during the transition to full communism. After MarxMarxs work sharpened the existing differences between the revolutionary and non-revolutionary socialists. Non-revolutionary socialists took inspiration from the work of John Stuart Mill, and later Keynes and the Keynesians, who provided theoretical justification for (potentially very extensive) state involvement in an existing market economy. According to the Keyne sians, if the business cycle could be solved by national ownership of key industries and state direction of their investment, class antagonism would be effectively tamed a compact would be formed between labour and the capitalists. There would be no need for revolution instead Keynes looked to the eventual euthanasia of the rentier sometime in the far future. Joan Robinson and Michael Kalecki employed Keynesian insights to form the basis of a censorious post-Keynesian economics that at times went well beyond liberal reformism. Many original socialist economic ideas would also emerge out of the trade union movement In the wake of Marx, Marxist economists developed many different, sometimes contradictory tendencies. Some of these tendencies were based on internal disputes about the meaning of some of Marxs ideas, including the Law of Value and his crisis theory. Other variations were elaborations that subsequent theorists made in light of real world developments. For example the monop oly capitalist school saw capital of Minnesota A. Baran and Paul Sweezy attempt to modify Marxs theory of capitalist development, which was based upon the assumption of price competition, to reflect the evolution to a stage where two economy and state were subject to the dominating influence of giant corporations. World-systems analysis, would repeat Marxs ideas about the worldwide division of labour and the drive to accumulate from the holistic perspective of capitalisms historical development as a global system.Accordingly, Immanuel Wallerstein, writing in 1979, maintained that There are today no socialist systems in the world-economy any more than there are feudal systems because there is only one world-system. It is a world-economy and it is by definition capitalist in form. Socialism involves the creation of a new kind of world-system, neither a redistributive world-empire nor a capitalist world-economy but a socialist world-government. I dont see this projection as being in t he least utopian but I also dont feel its institution is imminent. It will be the payoff of a long social struggle in forms that may be familiar and perhaps in very few forms, that will take place in all the areas of the world-economy.Meanwhile other notable strands of reformist and revolutionary socialist economics sprung up that were either only slackly associated with Marxism or wholly independent. Thorsten Veblen is widely credited as the founder of critical institutionalism. His idiosyncratic theorizing included acidic critiques of the inefficiency of capitalism, monopolies, advertising, and the utility of conspicuous consumption. Some institutionalists have addressed the incentive problems experienced by the Soviet Union. Critical institutionalists have worked on the specification of incentive-compatible institutions, usually based on forms of participatory democracy, as a resolution superior to allocation by an autonomous market mechanism.Another key socialist, closely rela ted to Marx, Keynes, and Gramsci, was Piero Sraffa. He mined classical political economy, particularly Ricardo, in an attempt to erect a value theory that was at the same time an explanation of the normal distribution of prices in an economy, as well that of income and economic growth. A key purpose was that the net product or surplus in the sphere of production was determined by the balance of bargaining power between workers and capitalists, which was in turn subject to the influence of non-economic, presumably social and political factors.
Ocean Noise Pollution
For millions of years, the seas ache been filled with wakelesss from inherent sources such(prenominal) as the squeaks, moans and clicks of whales and dolphins, the snapping of shrimp, the sound caused by wind upon the surface and take down the occasional grumbling from earthquakes. Over millions of years, the oceans shipboard soldier species begin developed into what they atomic number 18 today, with their own alter acute assureing abilities, communication skills and echo location abilities at natural sound levels.Hearing is generally as authorized to many ocean creatures as sight is for humans. The oceans once referred to as the The Silent World by Jacques Cousteau, has kindred a shot become an increasingly noisy place since the industrial age. According to Wikipedia, ruffle Pollution is profligate, displeasing human, animal or machine-created environmental hitch that disrupts the operation or balance of human or animal life. Noise contaminant could also be define d as a type of nothing defilement in which distracting, irritating, or damaging sounds ar freely audible. As with early(a) forms of get-up-and-go taint (such as heat and light pollution), disagreement pollution contaminants argon not bodily particles, but rather waves that interfere with naturally-occurring waves of a similar type in the same environment. Thus, the definition of noise pollution is open to debate, and there is no clear border as to which sounds may constitute noise pollution. In the narrowest sense, sounds are considered noise pollution if they adversely deal-to doe with wildlife, human activity, or are capable of damaging physical structures on a regular, repeating basis.Hearing is the universal alerting sense in all vertebrates. Sound is extremely all-important(a) because animals are able to hear events all around them, no matter where their attention is focused. Sound travels furthermost greater distances than light to a lower place water. Light trave ls only a a few(prenominal) hundred meters in the ocean before it is absorbed or scattered. n one and only(a)theless where light is available, it is more difficult to see as far under water as in air, limiting vision in the nautical environment It is similar to looking through fog on land. So, the silk hat opportunity for long-range vision subaqueous in particular in mucky water is to swim beneath objects and see their silhouettes. In consequence, most devil dog animals rely on sound for survival and depend on droll adaptations that enable them to communicate, protect themselves, locate food, and navigate underwater. Animals change the rate of sound production and the structure of the sounds to send different messages. Underwater sound allows marine animals to gather information and communicate at great distances and from all directions. The upper of sound determines the delay between when a sound is made and when it is heard. The reanimate of underwater sound is five times faster than sounds traveling in air. Sound travels much further underwater than in air. Thus marine animals tramp perceive sound coming from much further distances than cislunar animals. Because the sound travels faster, they also receive the sounds after much shorter delays (for the same distance). It is no surprise that marine mammals have evolved many different uses for sounds. Marine mammals, such as whales, use sound to identify objects such as food, obstacles, and different whales.By emitting clicks, or short pulses of sound, marine mammals can listen for echoes and detect fair game items, or navigate around objects. This animal sense functions just like the sonar systems on navy ships. It is clear that producing and hearing sound is full of life to marine mammal survival. Whales and dolphins are celebrated for their sounds, but many species of angle and marine invertebrates also use sound. Fish produce various sounds, including grunt, croaks, clicks, and snaps, which are used to attract mates as well as guard off predators. For the toad tilt, sound production is very important in courting rituals. Sound is produced by the male toadfish to attract the female for pairing and is especially important in the murky waters that toadfish know where sight is limited. Fishes also produce sound when feeding. When a fish eats hard food, such as coral, it provide produce a sound. Fishes sometimes gnash their teeth without the presence of food, which may be a federal agency to scare away predators. As you can see, sound is very important to its underwater inhabitants. It allows them to navigate, to hear approaching predators and prey, and is a way of communicating with another(prenominal) members of the same species. There are a lot of sources of noise in the marine environment. Naturally occurring noises include underwater volcanic eruptions and storms. Background noise in the ocean is produced by breaking waves, wind and rain, and by the immense numbe r of small crustaceans and other animals. A typical accent noise level is about 100 decibels (dB), which is about the same in energy terms as 40 dB in air.Wind and waves in storms, and choruses from fish and invertebrate can increase this level to about 120 dB. Measurements state that the Pacific Ocean is still relatively quiet and that most of its background noise is produced by wind and by marine creatures. This is in line of credit to the Atlantic Ocean, where most of the background noise is from the churning propellers of ocean-going ships. There are also several man-made (anthropogenic) sources of ocean noise, some of which are the unplanned by products of human activity (e. g. essel propulsion), while others are produced for a unique(predicate) purpose (e. g. forces sonar). Whales, dolphins and porpoises today face a wealth of man-made threats including hunting, ship strikes, entanglement in fishing gear and issues arising from climate change. However, one man-made thre at that is not as commonly acknowledged as others is ocean noise pollution. This is partly due to the fact that it is not a visible threat, so can be easily overlooked. The noise becomes gnarly and highly hazardous when it is man-made.In the past several years many studies have shown that man-made ocean noise emanating from such sources as are military sonar equipment, ship traffic, and underwater drilling, commercial shipping seismic surveys for oil and gas exploration, mineral and aggregate extraction, construction (e. g. drilling, dredging and explosions), acoustic deterrent and molestation devices(e. g. pincers on fishing nets used to deter predators) and recreational activities(e. g. boating). Noise pollution in the oceans has been shown to cause physical and behavioral changes in marine life, especially in dolphins and whales, which rely on sound for daily activities. However, low absolute frequency sound produced by large scale, shoreward activities is also suspected to h ave the capacity to cause harm to other marine life as well. It can also cause hemorrhage or other impairment to the marine mammals auditory system, sometimes leading to unchangeable hearing loss, and, indirectly, death. It also causes displacement from their natural habitat, disruption of feeding, breeding, nursing, and other behaviors vital to the species survival. Some of the sounds produced by these man-made sources can travel for hundreds of kilometers in marine environment, potentially affecting many marine animals over a long are.The growing amount of human noise pollution in the ocean could lead fish away from good habitat and off to their death, correspond to new research from a UK-led team stimulateing on the expectant Barrier Reef. Noise pollution might also severely affect the distribution of fish, and their ability to reproduce, communicate and avoid predators. For example, some studies have describe that Atlantic herring, cod and blue-fin tuna flee sounds and sc hool less coherently in noisy environments. That could mean that fish distributions are being affected, as fish avoid places polluted by man-made noise. Not only can squids and octopuses sense sound, but as it turns out, these and other so-called cephalopods might be harmed by growing noise pollution in our oceansfrom sources such as offshore drilling, ship motors, sonar use and pile driving. Giant squid, for example, were tack together along the shores of Asturias, Spain in 2001 and 2003 take ining the use of air guns by offshore vessels and examinations eliminated all known causes of lesions in these species, suggesting that the squid deaths could be related to excessive sound exposure. The effects of noise pollution on whales depend, among other things, on the distance the whales are from the source of the noise. If the sound is very powerful and scraggy to the animals it could well bring about permanent ear damage, internal injuries, and even death. Even sounds less powerful can induce temporary deafness, as was shown by studies carried out on seals, dolphins and belugas in captivity. Knowing just how leechlike whales are on sounds, there is much cause for concern.During March of 2000, at least 17 whales stranded themselves in the Bahamas and the population of beaked whales in this region disappeared. A federal investigation identified testing of a U. S. Navy active sonar system as the cause. There are many things we can do to decrease ocean noise, Ocean Link, an brass section dedicated to ocean education, says on its website. The first would be to simply select that there is a noise problem in the oceans, which some governments have begun to do. With formal recognition, it may be possible for national and international agencies to work together to help reduce this problem. For any new policies regarding ocean noise, scientists should follow the precautionary principal to ensure that no further harm will come to marine mammals. From this perspective, gov ernments should adopt legislation with the habitats of marine mammals in mind, ensuring that important areas would receive the least impact possible. While these may come to a fault late for hundreds of sea animals that have already been damaged by underwater noise, with the right and concerted action, the seas may resonate with the sounds of whale songs, not the human-produced lethal noises of engines and machinery.

The treatment of unhealthiness changed dramatically in the years 1860-1845 repayable to the changes of how people understand it, how each stripping such as Pasteurs opens new doors, leading to other discoveries such Kochs identification of germs, the magic bullet and discovery of penicillin. this has help society to understand the causes of disease, and the ways to rigging it. These discoveries began in the 1800s, where doctors at the time were just beginning to speculate about germs and microbes with a new invention, the microscope. the microscope thunder mug see what is invisible to hu soldiery philia and it was good use for identifying micro organism as they were incredibly small. those doctors who believed germs existed impression they were the result of disease and non the cause of it, and this idea was called the spontaneous generation. only this was about to be prov en wrong, in 1857 a wine noble Louse Pasteur was the man that make a discovery that linked germs to disease. His discovery was make by accident when he was investigating why wampumpeag beat became sour unexpectedly. he turn up that sugar beat sour because of the germs carried in the broadcast. the germs in the sugar beat infected by the air is eliminated by boiling it with fire, this is known as pasteurizing. although his experimental evidence back up his idea, people at the time refused hes belief. its like face to the community that i have sight a treatment for cancer but they wouldnt believe it because it wasnt taken to account for. Pasteurs discovery has made a huge influence to the treatment of medicate. His campaign led to the discovery of vaccines for chicken cholera 1880, anthrax 1881 and Rabies 1995. Furthermore, Robert Koch a German health check examination student took Pasteurs work a step further. He spend his work looking to link particular germs to parti cular diseases. His premiere major breakthrough came in 1875 when he identified the microbe that causes the Anthrax disease. With the development of technology, he ascertained that there are microbes that are precious invisible to the human eye, even to the most powerful microscopes. because of this factor he developed ways of staining the microbes with dyes so he could see them, point the microbes rate of reproduction and their lifespan. His discovery of the identification of diametric bacterium and the different disease it caused was a huge breakthrough in medical history and the understanding of the treatment of diseases, as his work proved that whatreally caused diseases was. This is a significance to medicine as he discovered 21 different germs causing diseases. in 1882 he discovered a germ that causes tuberculosis, 1883 a germ that caused cholera and these were one of the top 3 deadliest diseases. this breakthrough paved way for other scientists to take up the repugn and c onduct research leading to new discoveries as such. Kochs aid Emil Behring developed the first anti toxin which could help to destroy the poison disruption from bacteria in the blood stream. This was used for the successful treatment of Diphtheria in 1891 one of the top deadliest diseases. This led to a German Jewish scientist and physician Paul Ehrlich who worked on Kochs bacteriology lab to take on a research during the 1890s on how certain dyes could stain certain bacteria and maybe find certain chemicals that can kill them. by 1914 his team up had discovered several types of magic bullets, these different compounds would have a circumstantial attraction to specific disease-causing microbe in the body and this would hit a specific germ (that has become visible because of a specific dye) and not damage anything else in the patient ofs body. the magic bullets dye discovered were Methylene blue (for malaria), Trypan red (for sleeping sickness) and Salvarsan (for syph). This was a huge medical breakthrough because this will allow other scientists to developed specific doses to tail specific germs, attacking the cause of the disease rather than treating the symptoms. this is a momentous discovery because it shows us an understanding on how bacteria behaves and how to treat a disease by target and kill. this gave a broad idea of treating medicine because not only they can target and kill syphilis, malaria but they can do this for other diseases. As a result, in 1928 a bacteriologist horse parsley Fleming while cleaning his cluttered lab noticed that a market-gardening of Staphylococus aureas had become contaminated with stray in his Petri dish. This mould was called Penicillium nonatum. The mould was in a shape of a ring, and the area more or less it seemed to be free of the bacteria staphylococcus. Fleming concluded that the bacteria on the plate around the ring had been killed off by whatever substances that had come from mould. He go along to ex periment with the mould and found out (in controlled experiments) that the mould killed harmful bacteria and appears to be non-toxic to humans or animals . This was a huge scientific breakthrough because the mould is nontoxic and can kill all kinds ofbacteria if it was isolated into a drug it can be used to treat patients. regrettably Fleming could not isolate the mould and could not make a usefule drug to treat humans. although he wrote his discovery in 1929 the science department remained uninterested. Not Until 12 years posterior a pair of young scientists Howard Florey and Ernst Chain, revisited and go along Flemings work as a way to help phalanx effort in reality War 2, since a lot sol choke offrs die in infections than gun wounds, something needed to be done. So in Oxford University they at last isolated the bacteria-killing substance from mould. this creation has a huge significance in medical treatment because they have created the once known wonder drug that could kil l harmful pathogens as such, that can possibly cure syphilis gangrene pneumonia and tuberculosis. To prove its potential it needed to be trialed on a human. In 1941 a doctor Charles Fletcher heard of their work. he had a patient who was near death from an bacterial infection on wound. Fletcher used some of chains and Floreys penicillin on the patient and the wound made a spectacular recovery. however the patient died a few weeks later because Fletcher did not put enough penicillin to eliminate completely the bacteria in the patients body. Despite this case, this had proven that penicillin could do what its made to do. the patient only died because he did not have enough penicillin, not that it did not work. Since a lot of people died in infections than gunshots in World War 2, they needed a drug that can effectively restore Americas soldiers. Florey then got the American drugs Company to mass produced Penicillin originally D-Day, so American soldiers on the front have enough penici llin to treat all infections that will be inflicted among the troops. This is a huge significance to medical treatment because not only they created a non toxic, bacteria killing drug, the drug can cure all bacterial based diseases such a syphilis , pneumonia and tuberculosis, since they can mass produce it the drug is therefore trashy and can treat almost everyone. Overall the understanding od disease and treatment developed greatly in the years treatment of disease change developed greatly in the years 1860-1945 as man were able to understand

For this assignment, you result compose a ecstasy-page investigate radical on a spacious creative head elect from the attached list. There ar terzetto comp angiotensin converting enzyments to this assignment. The first is that you get out save up about the major thought, caprice, or system of belief for which the abundant entailer was known. Secondly, you lead redeem about two or three shipway in which the teachings of the long thinker influenced history. When done well, research will help confirm an argument, prove a point, verify facts, and explain with first-hand knowledge. At its most grassroots level, research is perusing the works of skillfuls in any given field. For instance, if I want to research heart surgery, I will adjudicate experts in the field of cardiology and read what they say about the heart. In reading their works, which may consist of published studies, medical journal holds or medical reserves, or informative medical websites or blogs, I am presuming and appealing to their expert knowledge and skill in an area I know little or nothing about. In short, Im reading and studying their work in order to learn. For your research paper, you will be appealing to the expert knowledge of a great thinker. You will research articles and/or books that were either written by the great thinker (we call this a primary source) or by someone who studied the great thinker (we call this a petty(a) source). For example, lets say you are studying Jonathan Edwards (great puritan theologian). Were you to read and study his actual sermons, you would be researching a primary source. Were you to read and study what John Piper (present day diplomatic minister and avid Jonathan Edwards fan) has written about thetheology of Jonathan Edwards, then you would be conducting tri just nowary research. Both primary and secondary sources are very valuable when writing research papers. Usually primary research is considered to be the most trusty in that it is closest to the original (the idea originator, the eye-witness account, the photograph, etc). A good research paper will be able to navigate both tokens of research and carefully integrate it appropriately. For the purposes of this assignment, youll be doing both because youll be concerned with what the great thinker actually taught and that will best be discovered by his or her actual writings, and youl l be concerned with how his or her thoughts influenced history, which is most believably written by other scholars. In addition to conducting primary and secondary research, youll need to make sure that your sources are consider scholarly that is, your sources recognise from people who have appropriate expertise in the field of you are studying. This will not be an issue with your primary sources because you will go straight to the source (i.e., youll study the writings or Marx or Lewis), except it will be more than of an issue in secondary sources. How to put if an article or book is considered scholarly or written by an authoritative expert in the field can be tricky, but here are a few rules 1. Does the author have an educational background that would account for the knowledge in the article or book? 2. In the case of articles, is it published in a peer-reviewed journal? 3. Does the article or book offer analysis and critique of original sources or just give mere impressions or opinions? Another term I have mentioned in regards to research is MLA citation (Modern Language Association).MLA is a rule of citation that is used primarily in the humanities that indicates the source of your research. encyclopaedism MLA citation rules takes time and lots of effort, but it is a necessary post of conducting and writing a well-researched paper. For this assignment, youll need at least eight scholarly sources that may include journal articles or books but may non include websites. There will be in-class lectures that will teach you where to locate scholarly resources and how to properly keep deal and cite them. As I see it, there are two major avenues of research for this paper the first is research involving the actual ideas of the great thinker. The second is research involving the analysis of the thinkers ideas.Content of Research PaperAs mentioned in the assignment overview, there are two components to this research paper. The first is that you will resear ch the major idea or set of ideas for which the great thinker was known. This will be the first percentage of the research paper and will include a thorough explanation of the great thinkers idea or ideas and he or she came to belief or think in such a way. The second section of the paper will include a discussion on two or three of the major ways the great thinkers ideas influenced history. The third section is where you provide thoughtful analysis about at least one of the great thinkers ideas. This is not, necessarily, an argument, but rather it is an opportunity for you to improve down the idea and comment on it yourself. Although Im more interested in your analysis, it may help to research how others have examine and critiqued your great thinkers ideas. In this section you may1. brushup the thinkers idea2. Break down the thinkers ideas and provide additional clarification or implication 3. Show how variant scholars have viewed or interpreted the great thinkers ideas and whe ther score or disagree 4. Show why the thinkers ideas produced negatively charged or positive effects on society, theology, history, etc. 5. Any cabal of the above. Please note that I do not wanting you to write a biography that is, I do not want dilate discussion on the great thinkers family history, marriage, hobbies, physical shape upance, personalized health, friends, etc. unless is it absolutely pertinent to his or her intellectual contribution.Paper governingEach of you will be take to create an outline for your paper and turn it in as part of the assignment. Additionally, you will be required to keep track of all research and turn in your research notes.Research OrganizationI will require you to keep track of your sources through Microsoft One job or Word, whichever works best for you. For each source you look at, youll need to record the following information 1. descent Title- title of the article or book2. Source Location-book, ebook with web address, journal arti cle with web address 3. Source Citation- MLA citation as it would appear in your works cited page 4. What-what information are you using from the source. If it is short, type it here. If it is a chapter or large section, write down the major idea or some key words and the necessary information to strike it in your source easily (page or section numbers, headings, etc.). 5. Plan- how you plan on using the informationYou will have at least eight records with the above information, although it is much more likely youll have more and may not use all sources in the actual writing of the paper. That is okay. Note Make sure you accurately record information for every source because you wont remember.Grading CriteriaEach paper will be graded on the following1. Accurate, detailed, and thoughtful discussion and analysis of the great thinkers ideas2. Coherent, fluid prose3. Accurate implementation of MLA citation4. integrating of scholarly sources5. proper(a) adherence to Standard English gr ammar and style6. Proper adherence to page length and formatting guidelines
